Fr m 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the City's Volunteers in Parks program wilt help these industrious <br /> otarians haul, pread and compact gravel for the new network of trails through the natural acea, located <br /> j st north of Vafl y River Center, off of Goodpasture Island Road to the east. <br /> The Ro rians will build on the work accomplished at an all-day work party last month during which <br /> nsiderable p ress was made in clearing the site of blackben-ies and ivy and beginning to construct <br /> its. "I am ve thankful for the assistance and dedication of our Rotary partners with this project," says VtP <br /> oordinator Ma McRae. "They have worked tirelessly alongside parks staff to get this job done." <br /> The eff rt is the result of a partnership between the City, local Rotary clubs, Oregon State Parks, <br /> and others to nstruct a new pedestrian path and boardwalk viewing trail in the northern section of Delta <br /> Ponds. The en ancements will allow wildlife viewing and other passive recreational uses in an area rich in <br /> natural habitat ut di~cult to access. In addition, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is moving ahead on~ a <br /> $6.2 million pr jest to increase river flows through the Delta Ponds to provide better habitat for salmon and <br /> native plants d animals. Preliminary work on .that project, which includes the construction of additional <br /> recreational f ilities, could begin next spring.
