From 9 a.m. to noon, the Girl Scouts from troop
#378 are lending their help to the Downtown Lions as members from both groups plant native trees and
shrubs in the area that the Lions Club adopted 10 years ago through Stream Team and have nurtured in
~ regular biannual work parties. The site is located off of Goodpasture Island Road just past the last car
dealership. Parking is available in a small parking strip on the right. From 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. just a
stone's throw north on Goodpasture Island Road (parking is available just south of the apartment
complex on the east side of the road), Delta Rotary members will continue the work they began last fall,
' creating a new network of trails in the northern-most section of the ponds. Using power-wheelbarrows
and a loading device to move gravel and plate compactors to harden the surface, they'll work on laying
more trail. These efforts are part of a larger restoration and recreation effort underway at Delta Ponds,
funded by the City, the Army Corps of Engineers and several other local and state partners.
Stream Team provides educational and volunteer opportunities for members of the community,
from elementary-age children to college students to older adults, to learn about and care for the city's
waterways and natural areas. The Volunteers In Parks program supports citizen involvement in activities
such as park beautification, litter control, trail development and maintenance, weeding, and other special
projects in Eugene's parks. For more information about the Rotary work party, call Volunteers In Parks
at 682-4845. For more information about the Downtown Lions and Girl Scouts work party, call Eugene
Stream Team at 682-4850.
