' <br /> Obsidians and City Team up to Improve Ridgeline Trail <br /> On Saturday, January 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Obsidians invite all interested community <br /> embers to join them in helping improve the tie trail between Spencer Butte Loop and the Ridgeline Trail. <br /> he Obsidians Club, a local non-profit group involved in hiking, badcpadcing, mountain climbing, cross <br /> untry skiing, and other outdoor activities, has teamed up with the City's Volunteers in Parks program to <br /> race up wom and overgrown trails along the Ridgeline. The club has sponsored monthly work parties <br /> nce last October and is making significant progress. So far, over 100 feet of trail has been rehabilitated, <br /> ~ozens of culverts and drains have bean cleared of debris, and brush has been cleared from 1.5 miles of <br /> tail. On Saturday, volunteers wilt have the opportunity to try their hand at stone masonry as the group <br /> f~uitds a creek crossing. General maintenance, such as tree pruning and cleaning drains, is also planned. <br /> "This group is very energetic and enthusiastic and is highly motivated to do the strenuous work of <br /> ~pgrading these trails," says Volunteers in Parks Coordinator Matt McRae. <br /> Water, proper footwear and appropriate clothing are recommended. Tools and snacks will be <br /> rovided.
