Want to team calls or teach them? Eugene
Stream Team needs willing volunteers to monitor birds at Delta Ponds once or twice a week and, in
partnership with•the University of Oregon Service Learning Pn~gram, is offering a training in these skills on
Saturday, March 26, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The session will begin at the Public Works yard at 1620
Roosevelt Boulevard and end with a field trip to Delta Ponds.
By recruiting experienced birders, Stream Team hopes to develop a corps of volunteers who can
carry out survey work at Delta Ponds for several years. The job will involve recording bird calls and sightings
at pre-designated sites and routes. Based on this information, City natural resources staff will assess bird
populations in the natural area, develop species lists, and build a database to evaluate the effect of
restoration projects on bird populations. Interested participants should be independent, self-motivated
individuals with good vision and hearing and be willing to commit to at least one migration season.
This effort is part of a larger restoration and recreation project at Delta Ponds, funded by a
partnership among the City, Army Corps of Engineers and several other local partners. Stream Team
provides the opportunity for people to do hands-on environmental work, restoring and caring for the city's
waterways and natural areas. To register or for more information about the upcoming training, call 682-4850
or e-mail loma.i.baldwin~ci.euoene.or.us.
