On Sunday, April 10, at 1 p.m., Rich flaring, an active <br /> I~n~mber of the local chapter of the Rhododendron Society and rhododendron and Hendridks Park <br /> enthusiast, leads a tour or the park's world-renowned rhododendron garden. flaring will offer gardening tips <br /> as well as some history of the garden and plant identification. The tour begins at the F. M. Wilkins Shelter <br /> et 2200 Summit Avenue and lasts about an hour. <br /> According to Ginny Alfriend, Hendridks Park head gardener, many of the rhododendrons are in full <br /> ~ICpOm right now. "The peak bloom season is just beginning," she says. "The cooler weather and much <br /> needed rain really have really helped extend the bloom season this year.° <br /> Sturdy walking shoes are recommended. The tour winds through the hillside garden on gravel paths <br /> t~~t may be too steep in places for manual wheelchairs. Pets are not allowed. <br /> Future garden tours include a tour of the native .plant garden on Wednesday evening, May 4, at 6 <br /> p.rn. barking is limited at the park; alternative transportation is strongly encouraged. To visit the park by <br /> bud, take the #27 Fairmount route to Walnut and 17"', walk south to Fairmount, and continue one block, <br /> thin tum east on Summit and walk up to the top of the hill where you will see the Wilkins shelter.
