The "Trees for Concrete" <br /> project was initiated by the owners of two new downtown restaurants, Me»a Luna Pizzeria and Sweet Basil <br /> lhai';Cuisine, and G Group, LLC, the firm that manages the downtown property: They removed the <br /> c~anarete, the City provided the trees, $nd Eugene TreQ Foundation coordinated the effort. <br /> "Sandy Little and John Fitzgerald, co-owners of Mezza Luna, and Max Stabin, owner of Sweet Basil, <br /> are proud business owners and are very happy to be located downtown. They're excited about making their <br /> ri~staurants more attractive, while helping beautify this area of the City," says Scott Gibbs, Property <br /> I~lanoger for G Group. "{t looks like both restaurants are here to stay: They have gotten very good reviews <br /> end are enjoying a thriving business already." <br /> This project will cap this year's tree planting season. The NeighborWoods program works with local <br /> qusinesses, school groups, community groups, and nE;ighbors to build Eugene's urban forest and improve <br /> ~ratar quality by planting street trees. Since January, more than 375 trees have been planted in sites across <br /> tie city by the program's volunteers.
