Encounter trillium, trout lilies, delphinium, sidalcea, <br /> and other native flora on an evening tour of the Hendricks Park Native Plant Garden on Wednesday, May 4, <br /> at 6 p.m. Ginny Alfriend, Hendricks Park head gardener and resident native plant expert, will lead the tour of <br /> the garden, which features native trees, shrubs and p©rennials of the southern Willamette Valley. The tour <br /> begins at the F. M. Wilkins Shelter at 2200 Summit Avenue and lasts about an hour. <br /> Alfriend is predicting a very short, but potentially spectacular, bloom season. "Early, mid and late <br /> season plants may all bloom simultaneously! So, don't miss the show -come early," she says, "The garden, <br /> despite the odd year, is full of life, birds and flowers, and a lovely, tranquil place to visit." According to <br /> Alfriend, the cooler temperatures and rain may help extend the season and keep the blossoms fresh. <br /> Sturdy walking shoes are recommended. Thc; wildflower tour travels through the area around the <br /> shelter and Into an area of the forest that was recently cleared of ivy on gravel or wood chip paths. Pets are <br /> not allowed. <br /> Parking is limited at the park; alternative transportation is strongly encouraged. To visit the park by <br /> bus, take the #27 Fairmount route to Walnut and 17'", walk south to Fairmount, and continue one block, <br /> then turn east on Summit and walk up to the top of the hill where you will see the Wilkins shelter.
