The project on West 28th Avenue is one of eight pavement preservation projects scheduled this summer in Eugene. The projects are funded primarily by Eugene's local motor vehicle fuel tax. The goal of the pavement preservation program is to repair city streets before they become significantly deteriorated and much more expensive to fix. Wildish Construction Co. is the general contractor on the West 28th Avenue project. The work involves grinding off deteriorated pavement, excavating and repairing portions of the subsurface structure, and applying new asphaltic concrete. Approximately 4,000 tons of asphalt will be used to resurface about 1.4 miles of West 28th Avenue. When the paving portion of the work is complete, the street will be restriped in the existing configuration of one travel lane in each direction, bicycle lanes on both sides of the street, and parking in designated areas. The repair work on West 28th Avenue is scheduled to be completed by late June. During construction, traffic in work zones will be directed by flaggers. At least one travel lane will be kept open at all times; however, motorists are likely to encounter delays during daytime . construction hours and are advised to use alternate routes.
