May 13, 2005 <br /> CONTACT: Eric Jones, Public Affairs Manager <br /> From Public Information Section, 682-5523 or 954-2938 <br /> FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br /> `Discover Public Works' at Annual Open House on May 19 <br /> Eugene residents are invited to "Discover Public Works" at the 14th annual Eugene <br /> <br /> 'Public Works Open House on Thursday, May 19, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Public Works <br /> Yard, 1820 Roosevelt Boulevard, Eugene. <br /> Designed primarily for youngsters, the free event showcases the many services that <br /> Eugene Public Works provides in our community. "Tiny Park" highlights the work of the <br /> department's Parks and Open Space Division, "Tiny Town" teaches children how to be safe in <br /> traffic, "Water World° features stormwater and wastewater services, and the "Equipment Rodeo" <br /> gives people of all ages a chance to sit behind the wheel of a dump truck, a street sweeper, <br /> mowers, back hoes, giant cranes, and other Public Works equipment. <br /> Other displays and activities include an interactive look at the airport's security system, a <br /> trailer ride through the Public Works "backyard," and group photos framed on a picture of a <br /> manhole cover. <br /> About 1,000 schoolchildren and hundreds of adults have signed up for tours at the <br /> Public Works Open House. A free brochure also makes it easy for participants to take a self- <br /> guided tour. <br /> Vehicle and bike parking is available at the Roosevelt Yard, and the LTD bus #40 Royal <br /> has service to 18th and Roosevelt every 30 minutes.
