The campaign is part <br /> of a Day of Caring for 7"' grade students at the school. School organizers hope to cultivate the spirit of <br /> ,service by giving the studenrts the hands-on opportunity to contribute to several community organizations <br /> aid programs, including the City of Eugene Panics and Open Space, BRING Recycling, and Food'for Lane <br /> ,county Grassroots Gardens, Greenhill Humane Society, St. Vincent de Paul, and more. Crews of <br /> a~proximatsly 10 students can be found at the following park sites from approximately 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m: <br /> Hendricks Park: Students will help remove invasive species, such as blackberry and herb Robert, along <br /> I', tlhe Oak Knoll trait, a recently restored trail that travels through a highly sensitive remnant of the <br /> Wlllamette Valley oak woodlands habitat that was once a prominent part of the valley landscape. For <br /> sipeafic location Information, contact Hendricks Park staff, Ginrry Alfriend, 868 4783 (cell) or Jason <br /> Blazar, 543-6869. <br /> Delta Ponds: Students will help University of Oregon Service Learning Program students and City of <br /> Eugene natural resources staff to monitor amphibians and turtles, prepare turtle nesting sites and mulch <br /> and enhance native vegetation at Delta Ponds. For specific location information, contact Lauri Mullen, <br /> Delta Ponds Habitat Enhancement Coordinator, at 968-4156 {cell). <br /> ~N Alton Baker Park, Whilamut Natural Area: Students will meet with Nearby Nature from 9:30 a.m.-noon <br /> and team more about the ecosystems in Alton Baker Park white helping with restoration activities in the <br /> riparian forest along the Willamette River. Then, from noon-2 p.m., the students will help the City of <br /> Eugene's Natural Resources Maintenance crew tackle Scot's Broom, an invasive plant, also in the <br /> riparian forest.
