In general, the work
includes removing the existing deteriorated asphalt surface, making subsurface repairs as
necessary, and constructing a new asphalt surface. During construction, onstreet parking will
be prohibited in work zones and there will be temporary lane detours, but there will be no
permanent changes to parking or lane configurations.
The work begins Tuesday, July 19, with the replacement of the concrete crosswalk on
UNiAamette Street on the north side of 11th Avenue. Willamette Street will be closed at 11th
Avenue for approximately four days, first to northbound traffic, then to southbound traffic. After
the concrete work is completed, the contractor will do the pavement removal and repaving work.
' That work is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of July 23-24, weather permitting.
On Willakenzie Road and Bertelsen Road, pavement removal and repaving work is
scheduled to begin the week of July 25 and be completed by early August. On both streets,
portions of the sidewalk will be closed for construction of new sidewalk access ramps.
All work on the three streets is scheduled to be completed bymid-August, weather
;permitting. Motorists and bicyclists may encounter detours and delays during daytime
construction hours and are encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid delays. Updated
construction information is available on the Internet at www.eugene-or.gov, or on the metro road
report telephone hotline, 984-8484.
The three projects will complete Eugene's 2005 pavement preservation program, in
'which a total of 12 lane miles of streets are being repaired at a cost of approximately $3.5
million. The primary source of funding for the paving work is Eugene's local 5-cent-per-gallon
motor vehicle fuel tax.

1rr
Public Works • Administration • City of Eugene • 858 Pearl Street • Eugene, OR 97401
Phone: (541) 682-5262 • FAX: (541) 682-6826 • www.ci.eugene.or.us
