_ 09/'1 /2.005 WED 17 29 FAX _541 682 6838 CITY OF EUGENE AIRPORT PW ADMIN IaJ001/001 _
I •
Public Works
Airport Division
f City of Eugene
28855 Lockheed Drive
Eugene, Oregon 97402
(541)682-5430
(541) 682-6838 FAX
vrww.eugeneairport.com
PRESS RELEASE
Wednesday, September 14, 2005
For Immediate Release
j No Chajnges Seen at Eugene Airport as Result of Delta Filing
j Today Delta Airlines filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. While not unexpected,
j this news prompts even more questions in an environment that is already uncertain.
• The Eugene Airport is providing the following information to assist travelers who may
hold Delta tickets or who are making travel plans:
i
• According to Delta, the filing will cause no immediate changes and no disruptions
in service. Passengers can travel confident that their flights will be running,
tickets and reservations will be honored, refunds and exchanges will be provided
~ as usual, and frequent flier miles will continue to accrue. As changes are
planned and implemented, there will be ample notice to the traveling public.
• Eventually Delta may implement reductions in service systemwide, particularly in
its weaker, unprofitable markets. It is far too early to know how these changes
will affect the Eugene Airport, but we do know that the Eugene market has been
successful for Delta. Delta even added a third flight on January 31, 2005. As
~ Delta evaluates service changes, Eugene is in a good position.
• Bankruptcy protection will allow Delta to restructure and retool its business so
that it can emerge prepared to compete in a very difficult environment. We will
closely follow the court's actions to know what changes are coming and how they
will affect us.
The Eugene Airport will continue to keep travelers apprised of developments
affecting air service in our region.
i
i
For more information, please contact Bob Noble, Eugene Airport Manager at 682-5430.
I
I
i
~ ~
