The City has installed the new scope at the <br /> 'C eckermahow ccess, an overlook at the north end of Meadowlark Prairie along Amazon Creek. LCAS <br /> Ia d the Ciry of E gene Parks and Open Space Division are hosting a public dedication event on the morning <br /> ~o Saturday, Oct ber 22nd <br /> Ciry of Eu ene Mayor Kitty Piercy and Assistant Ciry Manager Jim Carlson will kick off the <br /> ~d dicacion prog m promptly at 10:00 am at the Checkermallow Access overlook. Volunteer staff from <br /> L AS will talk ab ut their decision to donate the scope, as well as their current activities in the wetlands. <br /> ~E is Wold, Wetia ds Program Supervisor for the City of Eugene, will talk briefly about the history of the <br /> ~vv tlands and futu a plans for this important community resource. <br /> i <br /> The Mead wlark Prairie is dotted with shallow pools that are resting and feeding spots for <br /> wv terfowl and sh rebirds. In the winter months, these pools provide excellent, up-close views of many <br /> ties such ass w geese, pintails, and western pond turtles. To date, 203 species of birds have been <br /> served in the tlands and forested. uplands of west Eugene. Over the st decade, several news ecies <br /> ~ p <br /> ~ ve been added o this list as increasing numbers of skilled observers visit the wetlands and report their <br /> dings.
