~ ~ is ~ <br /> November 14, 2005 <br /> CONTACT: Tom Larsen, Traffic Engineer, 541-682-4959 <br /> From Publi Information Section, 682-5523 or 954-2938 <br /> FOR IMME IATE RELEASE <br /> Prelimin ry Work Begins on Conversion of Downtown 10"' Avenue to Two-Way Traffic <br /> Mot rists this week will begin seeing traffic control changes on a four-block section of 10tH <br /> Avenue in owntown Eugene. <br /> ~ The traffic control changes will culminate later this month in the conversion of 10th Avenue <br /> to two-way raffic between Olive and High streets. Currently that section of 10th Avenue is one- <br /> way eastbo nd, and it is scheduled for conversion to two-way traffic on Tuesday, Nov. 29. <br /> Ina ticipation of the conversion, crews from Eugene Public Works on Wednesday, Nov. <br /> 16, are sch dined to replace the existing traffic signal at 10th Avenue and Olive Street with all-way <br /> stop signs. Bather permitting, crews also will restripe 10th Avenue between Olive and Willamette <br /> streets. Ba icades and temporary signage will direct motorists until 10th Avenue is opened to two- <br /> <br /> , way traffic. <br /> Be Ben now and Thanksgiving, City and Lane Transit District (LTD) officials are <br /> coordinatin the replacement and activation of new traffic signals on 10th Avenue at Willamette, <br /> Oak, Pearl nd High streets to handle two-way traffic and also to accommodate LTD's EmX <br /> transit serv ce when it begins operating in 2006. <br /> The conversion of 10th Avenue to two-way traffic has long been a downtown transportation <br /> goal forth City.
