Volunteers will spend the morning constructing small rock towers called <br /> cairns ab ve the tree line in order to help hikers stay on the trails which can be difficult to find. <br /> Cairns a) o keep people from trampling sensitive vegetation at the top of the butte as they try to <br /> find their ay down. Community members interested in participating are asked to meet at the <br /> Spencer utte Trailhead on Willamette at 9:00 a.m. <br /> <br /> 1 Organize in 1927 by a group of men from Eugene who were concerned about a mountaineering <br /> <br /> ~ accident, he Obsidians have grown to more than 500 people actively involved in a wide variety of <br /> outdoor ctivities. The Obsidian Trips Committee schedules trips and outings year round. These vary <br /> from easy afternoon walks to strenuous hikes and overnight backpacks. In all these activities, the <br /> ultimate bjective is to explore the more scenic areas of the local environment, and savor to the fullest <br /> the aesth tic experience of wildness. <br /> <br /> i <br /> <br />
