- s? ~ ~ ~ <br /> April 21, 20 6 <br /> CONTACT: Joe Ramirez, Project Manager, 541-682-5228 <br /> From Publi Information Section, 682-5523 or 954-2938 <br /> FOR IMME IATE RELEASE <br /> T o Streets to Be Closed as Courthouse Street Construction Continues <br /> Sec ions of Eighth Avenue and Ferry Street in the vicinity of the new federal courthouse <br /> will be clos d for at least a month beginning the week of April 24 as the City of Eugene <br /> <br /> li continues rk on courthouse area transportation improvements. <br /> The closures include the one-block section of Eighth Avenue between Mill and Ferry <br /> streets and he one-block section of Feny Street between Broadway and Eighth Avenue. <br /> Motorists w II be able to access businesses and residences on Eighth Avenue east of Ferry <br /> Street via H lyard Street north of Broadway. <br /> The Eugene Public Works Department and its contractor, Eugene Sand & Gravel, earlier <br /> this month egan work on the first phase of street improvements to serve the new Wayne Morse <br /> Federal Co rthouse and the surrounding area. The $1.7 million street project includes <br /> extending erry Street to the north, building a connecting street between the Ferry Street <br /> extension a d Sixth Avenue near High Street, and reconstructing Ferry Street from Broadway to <br /> Eighth Ave ue and Eighth Avenue from Hilyard to Mill streets. <br /> The phase-one work is scheduled to be completed this fall, to coincide with the opening <br /> of the new ourthouse. The next phase of street work, scheduled to begin in 2007, will extend <br /> Sixth Aven a to connect to Hilyard Street and become westbound Highway 99W. This rerouting <br /> of westbou d Highway 99 will allow improvements to be made at the intersections of Eighth <br /> Avenue wit Mill Street and at Broadway with Hilyard to make it easier and safer for pedestrians <br /> to cross th street.
