i <br /> June 22, 2007 <br /> CONTACT: Cindy Clarke, Transportation Options Coordinator, 682-5285 <br /> David Roth, Transportation Planning, 682-5727 <br /> From Public Information Section, 682-5523 or 954-2938 <br /> FOR IMMEpIATE RELEASE <br /> Local Bank Provides Support for Sustainable Transportation Options <br /> A local bank is partnering with the City of Eugene to help fund bus passes as a <br /> sustainable. transportation option. <br /> Sterling Savings Bank, represented by Diane Sterling, will present Mayor Kitty Piercy with <br /> a check for $15,780 as part of the Business Energy Tax Credit (BETC) program offered through <br /> the Oregon Department of Energy. The event is at the Mayor's Office at City Hatl, 777 Pearl St., <br /> on Tuesday, June 26, at 3 p.m. <br /> The City of Eugene will receive the funds to reinvest them in the bus pass program offered <br /> <br /> ~rri to City employees through Lane Transit District's group pass program. The program offers bus <br /> passes to employers to provide for employees at a significantly reduced rate. <br /> The Business Energy Tax Credit pass-through program offered through the Oregon <br /> Department of Energy allows the City to partner with a business to transfer a tax credit to a pass- <br /> through partner, in this case Sterling Savings Bank, in return for alump-sum cash payment that <br /> helps to fund this sustainable transportation program for the next year. The Oregon Department <br /> ~ ~ of Energy offers the Business Energy Tax Credit to those who invest in energy conservation, <br /> recycling, renewable energy resources and less-polluting transportation fuels as part of the <br /> II mission to protect Oregon's environment. <br /> More information on the Business Energy Tax Credit program is available on the Internet <br /> at http://eggv.oregon.gov/ENERGY/CONS/BUS/BETC.shtml.
