I have spoken with Police of the impact of using these dollars for other than fleet purchases. Especially that they will not be able to come back later and want to;replace these units without working them into the long term plan again. This can and probably will have some impact wpon them but this is their choice, so I'm supporting them on this. If you have any further questions or suggestions please list me know, thanks. Then those fleet reserves would be replenished in FY03 when police buys 3 fewer vehicles. The Police Department is in the process of switching over from an analogue to a digital system and we would like to purchase the remaining 48 fixed mount digital police radios. With the discount, Motorola quote a price of $2,291.61 per radio. Total purchase price for 48 radios would be approximately $110.000. As savings of $24,000. We proposed taking the spending authority for three (3) of our eleven patrol vehicles to be ordered in FY03 ($22,000 per vehicle = $66,000) and one (1) unmarked from FY02 ($17,000), for a total of $83,000. I've discussed this proposal with Carlos Davis and he will support the purchase. Carlos advised that the white the 17K is available in the FY02 fleet reserves, the 66K from FY03 would need CMO approval on a supplemental budget. The issue will go before the Fleet Board for their approval on Monday, 3-4-02. 1
