_ ~ <br /> _ <br /> July 27, 200 <br /> CONTACT: Steve Gallup, Project Engineer, 541-682-8460 <br /> From Public Information Section, 682-5523 or 954-2938 <br /> FOR IMME IATE RELEASE <br /> Intersec ion of Hilyard and 24"' to Be Closed for at Least Five Days Beginning July 31 <br /> The 'ntersection of Hilyard Street and 24th Avenue will be closed for at least five days <br /> beginning M nday morning, July 31, as the road work on Hilyard Street shifts to the south. <br /> Eug ne Public Works is managing a $2 million project to reconstruct Hilyard Street from <br /> 13th to 24th venues. The general contractor, Wildish Construction, has substantially completed <br /> the first pha a of the project, from 13th to 18th avenues. Plans call for that section, which has been <br /> closed sine mid-June, to be reopened late in the day on Monday, July 31. <br /> The econstruction work will now shift to the section of Hilyard Street between 18th and 24th <br /> avenues. P eliminary work in that area already has begun, and 20th and 21St avenues are closed <br /> at Hilyard. <br /> The losure of the intersection at Hilyard and 24th will allow the contractor to rebuild the <br /> deteriorated roadbed at that location and construct a new, concrete surface. Plans call for the <br /> intersection to be reopened on Saturday, August 5, if the new concrete surface has cured <br /> sufficiently t allow traffic on it. <br /> The ilyard Street reconstruction project is scheduled to be completed by September 5, <br /> before scho Is reopen. <br /> Also in the west university area, construction will begin next week on the resurfacing of <br /> Patterson S reet between East Broadway and 13th Avenue. That work includes spot repairs to the <br /> roadbed an constructing a new asphalt surface.
