It also <br /> establishe Airport Road as the direct route to and from the airport by reconfiguring the <br /> intersectio of Airport Road and Green Hill Road West and eliminating the stops on Airport Road. <br /> Th City of Eugene designed and managed the $2.5 million project on a Lane County road <br /> with fundin primarily from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The road realignment is the <br /> final phase of the FAA-funded project to construct a new airport runway, which opened in <br /> September 2005. <br /> In t e design of the new roadway, care was taken to avoid existing wetlands, and water- <br /> quality swa es were included to manage stormwater. <br /> The opening of the new roadway marks substantial completion of the project, which began <br /> in June. R maining work includes finishing the transition at Green Hill Road East and old Airport <br /> Road, relo ating the airfield fence to the center of the abandoned section of Airport Road, <br /> seeding, m Iching and planting landscaping at the entrance to the airport, and installing <br /> miscellane us signs and permanent light poles.
