Community gardens not only give individuals and <br /> flies a chance to grow their own food, but learn from other gardeners, and create new friendships. <br /> I <br /> C¢a finer Kathy Freedman writes, "My husband and I are lifelong apartment dwellers who last year rented a garden <br /> plo at Skinner City Farm for the first time. We had no idea when we signed up what a terrific experience it would be. <br /> fur 600 -square- foot plot produced a huge amount of produce for us and our friends and family...The garden <br /> pr motes community-building in that we gardeners can't help but admire each others' work, share seeds, starts, and <br /> pr duce. We always have something to talk to each other about." <br /> Sine 1978, Eugene's Community Gardens Program has been offering residents the opportunity to cultivate a plot of <br /> I~n since. In 2005, gardeners began enjoying new amenities such as wheelchair-accessible plots at Alton Baker <br /> c~n larger organizational plots at Skinner City Farm. Gardeners rent approximately 500 square foot plots for $60 <br /> [~e year.
