l
I
I
July 20, 2007
CONTACT: Matt Rodrigues, Project Manager, 541-682-6036
From Public Information Section, 682-5523 or 954-2938
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Traffic Advisory
Watch for Closures on East 18"' Avenue and at East 19th Avenue at Agate Street
Street repairs will close the intersection of Agate Street and East 19th Avenue for about a
week beginning Tuesday, July 24, and East 18th Avenue is scheduled to be closed to westbound
traffic from Alder to Agate streets during the same period.
Eugene Sand & Gravel is working in the area as part of a City of Eugene project to repave
Agate Street from 13th to 22"d avenues and repair and improve 18th Avenue from Agate to Hilyard
streets. At this stage of the project, the work on 18th Avenue includes building new concrete curb,
gutter and sidewalk along the north side of the street and doing spot concrete work along other
portions of the street. Eventually the contractor will remove the top layer of deteriorated
pavement and construct a new asphalt street surface.
'j The work on Agate Street is mostly asphalt overlay. However, because of the extent of
ii deterioration at the intersection of 19th and Agate, the contractor will excavate the intersection and
rebuild it from the ground up.
Plans call for the intersection of 19th and Agate to be reopened July 31. Elsewhere in the
construction area, motorists are advised to watch for construction equipment traffic, lane closures
and lane shifts. On-street parking will be prohibited in areas, and motorists are encouraged to use
~ alternate routes to avoid construction-related delays.
Also, construction by Northwest Natural will slow traffic on Division Avenue on Monday
j and Tuesday, July 23 and 24. From 5 a.m. to 4 p.m., NW Natural will be excavating in the
westbound lane of Division Avenue between Fred Meyer and Ross Lane. Traffic will be controlled
by flagging and one lane will remain open at all times during work hours.
For more information about roadwork in the Eugene area, call the Metro Roadwork Hotline
at 984-8484, or on the web at www.eugene-or.gov/traffic.
Eugene Public Works. www.eugene-or.gov/pw _
858 Pearl Street, Eugene, Oregon 97501 • 541-682-5523 ~ fax 541-682-6826 • e-mail pwadmin@ci.eugene.or.us
