The work will occur at
~'I numerous locations, and the westbound lane on Eighth Avenue will be closed at Jackson Street
for approximately two weeks.
Starting later next week, repairs will be made to the eastbound lane of 18th Avenue
between Polk and Jackson streets. East bound traffic will be permitted, but expect traffic slow
downs and travel lane restrictions during the construction period. This project will require three to
four weeks for completion.
In addition westbound 16th Avenue between Hilyard and Patterson streets will remain
closed through Tuesday. February 13, and westbound 14th Avenue between Kincaid and Alder
streets will remain closed through February 19 for concrete panel repairs.
Eugene has approximately 30 miles of concrete streets in its 516-mile street system.
Each year, repairs are scheduled based on a variety of factors, including amount of damage, use
of the street, and availability of funds. Typically, the repair work includes removing the old
pavement, making minor subsurface repairs if needed, pouring new concrete, and keeping traffic
off the new surface until the concrete has thoroughly cured, usually about two weeks. In 2006,
Public Works crews repaired more than 28,000 square feet of concrete streets using more than

~,I 700 cubic yards of concrete in the process.
Eugene also has an annual program to repair its asphalt streets. Unlike concrete repairs,
which can be done during cool and damp conditions, asphalt repairs are best done when it's
I! warm and dry. This year's asphalt pavement preservation program is scheduled to begin in May.
Both the concrete and asphalt repair programs are funded primarily with state and local motor
i
vehicle fuel taxes.
For updates on local road repair projects, call the metro roadwork hotline at 984-8484, or
on the web at www.eugene-or.gov/pw
Eugene Public Works • www.eugene-or.gov/pw
858 Pearl Street, Eugene, Oregon 97501 •541-682-5523 • fax 541-682-6826 • e-mail pwadmin@ci.eugene.or.us
