. <br /> s s <br /> February 13, 008 <br /> CONTACT: ~I Cindy Clarke, Transportation Options Coordinator, 541-682-5285 <br /> i <br /> From Public Information Section, 682-5523 or 954-2938 <br /> FOR IMMED~ATE RELEASE <br /> I <br /> Bicycling Safety Topic of Brown Bag Lunch at Library on Friday <br /> Join f~reston Tyree, director of education for the League of American Bicyclists, for a <br /> brown-bag lunch discussion at noon on Friday, February 15, at the Eugene Public Library in the <br /> Bascom Roo .Tyree will provide an update on things that the League is working on, share <br /> stories from other communities that are making bicycling more safe and attractive to the <br /> i <br /> community, ~ nd introduce concepts and programs that could bring more educational opportunities <br /> for cyclists i Eugene. <br /> Tyres is in Eugene this weekend representing the League of American Bicyclists and <br /> leading the League's certification instructor course to train community members to become <br /> bicycle safety instructors. Consistent with the goals stated in the Pedestrian and Bicycle Strategic <br /> Plan, the Cit~ of Eugene is coordinating and co-sponsoring opportunities for community members <br /> to become i volved and educated on bike safety issues. The League certification instructor <br /> course is an opportunity to train bicycle advocates or those interested in bicycle education to <br /> promote an~ encourage safe practices for all users of the transportation system. <br /> Preston Tyre joined the League as director of education in September 2007. He has more than <br /> 20 years of experience working with transportation issues, and has spent most of his time on <br /> bicycle safe>~y for the last 11 years. He will be responsible for the League's education program, <br /> including Rglad I, Road II, Kids I, Kids II, Commuter and the League Cycling Instructor Program. <br /> He is a Lea ~ ue life member, and has been a member of the board and chair of the education <br /> <br /> committee since 2004. He won the National Education Award from the League in 2002 and has <br /> been a League cycling instructor since 1996.
