Contact eric.r.ionesCa)_ci.eus~ene.or.usl <br /> New ilyard Extension Route Opens Tuesday in New Courthouse District <br /> Anew ute through the downtown courthouse district is scheduled to be open to traffic by <br /> noon Tuesday, April 22. <br /> With th opening of the Hilyard Street extension north of Broadway, westbound motorists on <br /> !Highway 99 wi I bypass the old Mill Street route and connect directly to Sixth Avenue at High Street. <br /> The new route which includes traffic signal changes at Hilyard and Broadway, is designed to reduce <br /> <br /> ice„ traffic volumes at the intersection of Eighth Avenue and Mill Street and improve access to and from <br /> the new Wayn Morse Federal Courthouse. <br /> Motori s traveling over the Ferry Street Bridge will use the Broadway-Mill viaduct route as <br /> they have in t past. People traveling to the downtown area can either remain on Broadway or use <br /> the new route o access the north end of downtown. <br /> Mean hile, the section of Mill Street just past the northbound onramp to the Ferry Street <br /> viaduct remai s temporarily closed. Westbound through traffic is encouraged to use the new bypass <br /> route to avoid etours onto Broadway. Access to the viaduct is expected to be open at all times. <br /> The $ million courthouse area transportation improvement project is a cooperative effort <br /> involving the ity of Eugene and the Oregon Department of Transportation, with funding coming from <br /> Lane County, he federal government and the City of Eugene.
