- sa ss i~ <br /> <br /> II June 17, 20 8 <br /> CONTACT: Tom Larsen, Traffic Engineer, 541-682-4959 <br /> From Public Information Section, 682-5523 or 954-2938 <br /> FOR IMME IATE RELEASE <br /> Street on East Side of Campus to Close for Eugene 08 Festival Preparation <br /> Agat Street on the east side of the University of Oregon campus will be closed beginning <br /> later this we k as organizers of the Eugene 08 Olympic Trials begin to set up the venue for the <br /> Eugene 08 estival. <br /> The nstallation of booths and other Festival infrastructure on city streets begins Friday, <br /> June 20, on Agate Street between 15th and 18th avenues. To prepare for that work, on <br /> Wednesday June 18, crews from Eugene Public Works will begin to bring in barricades and install <br /> signs directi g traffic to use 19th Avenue and Villard Street as alternate routes. The three-block <br /> section of A ate Street is scheduled to be closed on Thursday, June 19, and will remain closed <br /> until after th Olympic Trials conclude on July 6. On Tuesday, June 24, Public Works crews will <br /> close additi nal streets in the vicinity of Hayward Field. Those streets include Agate Street from <br /> Franklin Bo levard to 19th Avenue, 18th Avenue from Agate to Potter streets and of all the minor <br /> and connec ing streets and alleys in that area. <br /> Mot rists are urged to use alternate routes to avoid delays, detours and parking restrictions <br /> in the east mpus area. <br /> Whil world-class athletes compete for a place on the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team inside <br /> Hayward Fi Id, the Eugene 08 Festival will be the focal attraction for spectators before and after <br /> each comp tition session and provide a way for all community members to participate. Admission <br /> to the Euge a 08 Festival is free. <br /> Area residents traveling to and from the Festival and Olympic Trials are strongly <br /> encouraged to walk, ride a bike or take the regular LTD bus. All Eugene 08 volunteers and <br /> spectators ith tickets will be allowed to ride for free on any LTD bus to and from Hayward Field. A <br /> park & ride ystem will provide regular shuttles every 15 minutes from Autzen Stadium and South <br /> Eugene Hig School directly to the event.
