J. ® v <br /> July 31, 200 <br /> CONTACT: Project Manager Terry Colvin, 541-682-5398, Terry.R.Colvin@ci.eugene.or.us. <br /> From Public Information Section, 682-5523 or 954-2938 <br /> FOR IMME IATE RELEASE <br /> New U derground Vault Will Improve Stormwater Quality on Polk Street Line <br /> Con truction of a new stormwater quality vault at the end of North Polk Street near the <br /> Willamette fiver is scheduled to begin Monday, August 4. <br /> The nderground vault will serve an area of approximately 80 acres of urban infrastructure <br /> in the great r metropolitan area of Eugene. The structure, located on the north end of North Polk <br /> Street in M urie Jacobs Park, is designed to remove sediment, floatable debris, oils and other <br /> materials a le to be captured by mechanical means. The vault will be built underground and be <br /> maintained rom the surface. Literally tons of sediment, including metals and plastics, will be <br /> <br /> j captured an removed each year and kept from entering the Willamette River. <br /> Em and Sons of Stayton was the successful bidder for the $775,000 project, which is <br /> being mans ed by the City of Eugene Public Works Engineering Division. The project is paid for <br /> using storm ater user fees.
