(DEI) is the property and business owner's association for the
downtown core. Although the proposed site for the new federal courthouse is outside our
current boundary, we have participated in the visioning and planning processes for the
Courthouse neighborhood. The DEI Board of Directors wishes to be on record as
' supporting locating the courthouse at the former Agripac site (see enclosed resolution).
As with any complex development project, there are certainly a myriad of concerns and
issues to address in building a new courthouse and, concurrently, developing a new.
mixed-use neighborhood. However, our Board strongly urges GSA and the City of
Eugene to reach a "win-win" solution so that the courthouse construction can begin as
soon as possible.
I Our members, who include a number of significant downtown property owners and
developers, believe that the development and redevelopment potential in the Courthouse
neighborhood is significant. Although this development may not occur immediately it
certainly will occur. When it does, the community will have a new landmarle, a new
gateway into downtown, new access points to the Willamette River and new mixed-use
development of an underutilized and blighted area.
Once again, please move forward with building the courthouse on the chosen site.
Si cerely, ~
R ssell Brink, Exec e Director
D wntown Eu ,Inc.

i

E _ _ _ _ _ _
