SEC. 711-724. INTERMODAL ADVANCED VEHICLE PILOT PROGRAM <br /> • In these sections, Congress authorizes $200,000,000 for a pilot program to demonstrate <br /> advanced technology vehicles in intermodal applications <br /> • Advanced technology vehicles include dedicated alternative fuel, hybrid-electric and fuel <br /> cell vehicles. They also include ultra-low sulfur diesel vehicles manufactured between <br /> 2003 and 2006. <br /> • Under the program, Clean Cities will select up to 15 areas (cities) to receive grants of up <br /> to $20 million apiece requiring at least a 50 percent local match for the purpose of <br /> purchasing vehicles, installing fueling stations and installing operation and maintenance <br /> facilities. <br /> • Not less than 20 nor more than 25 percent of the grant funding made available under this <br /> program shall be used for the acquisition of ultra-low sulfur diesel vehicles. <br /> SEC. 742. PROGRAM FOR REPLACEMENT OF CERTAIN SCHOOL BUSES WITH <br /> <br /> CLEAN SCHOOL BUSES. <br /> • EPA, in consultation with DOE and other appropriate Federal departments and agencies, <br /> shall establish a program for awarding grants on a competitive basis to eligible entities <br /> for the replacement of existing school buses manufactured before model year 1991 with <br /> alternative fuel school buses and ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel school buses. <br /> • ELIGIBLE RECIPIENTS: A grant shall be awarded to: <br /> - State or local governmental entities responsible for providing school bus service <br /> to public school systems or responsible for the purchase of school buses for such <br /> systems; <br /> - Contracting entities that provide school bus service to public school systems, if <br /> the grant application is submitted jointly by the contractor and at least one school <br /> system to be served by the buses, except that the application may provide that <br /> buses purchased using funds awarded shall be owned, operated, and maintained <br /> exclusively by the contracting entity; or <br /> - a nonprofit school transportation association representing private contracting <br /> entities, if the association has notified and received approval from 1 or more <br /> school systems to be served by the buses <br /> • USE OF FUNDS: Funds may only be used to pay the cost of: <br /> - new alternative fuel school buses or ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel school buses, <br /> including State taxes and contract fees associated with the acquisition of such <br /> buses; except that <br /> - up to 20 percent of the price of the alternative fuel school buses acquired for a <br /> school system may be used to pay for necessary alternative fuel infrastructure if <br /> the infrastructure will only be available to the grant recipient; and up to 25 percent <br /> of the price of the alternative fuel school buses acquired maybe used for <br /> <br />
