White oaks were <br /> <br /> ~1r,r ~ selected becau e they are native to the butte, the site of other white oak stands. <br /> Mayor ames Torrey on Tuesday proclaimed Friday, April 9, as Arbor Day in Eugene. In <br /> his proclamati n, he urged "all citizens to support efforts to care for our trees and woodlands and <br /> to support our ity's community forestry program." <br /> The Ci y and the Eugene Tree Foundation have worked together on several tree-planting <br /> projects this y ar, including plantings on East 11`'' Avenue, Hilyard Street, and Harris Street. The <br /> i <br /> ! Eugene Tree oundation was founded in 1997 to encourage tree plantings and bring together <br /> ~ local govern nt, environmental organizations, and business interests to protect and enhance <br /> Eugene's urb forest.
