The testing locates defects and improper connections that allow <br /> stormwater off and groundwater to enter the wastewater collection system. <br /> i <br /> This i the sixth year of an ongoing testing program. This year's testing includes portions <br /> of the waste ter collection system in the east Eugene and Bethel areas of the city. Testing will <br /> begin in the urel Hill area and is expected to take two to three weeks to complete. The testing <br /> then will shi for the next eight to 10 weeks to the south Bethel area bounded by Terry Street, <br /> Bethel Drive, Cross Street and Hawthorne Lane. <br /> ~ Durin the tests, which are endorsed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, <br /> nontoxic, wh to smoke is released into sanitary sewer lines to identify problems. Residents are <br /> notified befo a testing begins in their neighborhood. The smoke will not harm plants or animals <br /> and will quic ly dissipate leaving no residue or stains. <br /> After smoke is blown into a sewer line, crew members look for signs of <br /> deteriorated 1'nes or improper connections. White smoke rising from the ground generally <br /> indicates a c ck or other defect in a sewer line.
