The Eugene Public Works Department this week
finished installi g signs in all school zones in the city of Eugene.
"The go 1 of this effort is to protect our children," said Gary Ludeke, traffic engineer for
i
the City of Eug ne. "It's critical that motorists obey traffic rules in school zones, and strict
enforcement an doubled fines are ways of making sure that drivers follow the rules, especially
when the safety of children is at stake."
All traf c infractions in school zones are covered under the new fine schedule. Examples
of higher fines nclude a $178 ticket for speeding up to 10 mph over the posted limit, $230 for
failing to stop a stop sign, and $1,260 for passing a school bus stopped with its lights flashing.

Pudlic Works • Admin stration • City of Eugene • 858 Pearl • Eugene, OR 97401-2727 • Phone: (541) 682-5262 • FAX (541) 682-6826
