~ i.
f
News Release Sewer Repair Work in Southeast Eugene Begins July 9
July 2, 1997
Page 2
Actual repairs are made by inserting a folded plastic liner into the existing waste ater
line and expanding it using steam and pressure. This process, which has been used succ ssfully
in the last several years in other parts of the city, makes it possible to seal cracks, broke pipe
and bad joints from the inside of the existing pipe without digging it up. Hookups to in ividual
homes are made by excavating the existing connection point and replacing it with a new tap
drilled through the liner. This work includes repairs to the wastewater collection lines m the
newly installed liner to the property line, where access is available. As a final step, m oles are
f
resealed and water-tight lids are installed to reduce stormwater infiltration.
In most areas, traffic impacts should be minimal because much of the work can a done
without excavation and many of the wastewater collection lines are located in alleys be een
streets. However, motorists may encounter some local lane or street closures. Typicall these
closures should last for a day or less. Lane closures on Willamette Street, Donald Street or 28th

Avenue will be announced on the City's traffic relief hotline, 984-8484.
