Featur d speakers include Eugene Mayor Jim Torrey, Portland City Commissioner Charlie <br /> Hales, Vancouv r (B.C.) City Councilor Gordon Price, ODOT Director Grace Crunican, Oregon <br /> Department of and Conservation and Development Director Dick Benner, and Dan Burden of Walkable <br /> Communities. <br /> The go of the conference is to provide professionals and interested citizens with the visions and <br /> tools to creates eets that attract people, promote alternatives to the automobile, increase safety, enhance <br /> the business env ronment, and provide quality public places for people to shop, chat, and meet. Topics <br /> include techniq s used successfully in other areas that can work in Oregon; how to fund, design and <br /> build projects th t improve conditions for walking, bicycling and transit; how other communities are <br /> creatively reusi and redeveloping existing main streets; and evidence that bicycle and pedestrian- <br /> friendly streets a good for business as well as making communities cleaner and safer. On Monday, <br /> November 10, a pecial conference feature will be an all-day professional training on planning, designing <br /> and building str is that attract pedestrians. <br /> Cost oft a three-day event is $190. There are also one-day registrations and a limited number of <br /> scholarships for tudents and interested students.
