The reception and sale of the fountain pieces will <br /> be held at the One East Broadway building adjacent to the fountain. <br /> Backgrounder: <br /> Willamette, Olive and Broadway Streets were initially closed in 1970 to <br /> provide a pedestrian mall in the downtown area, Downtown malls sprang up <br /> across the nation during the early 1970s. But as downtown services shifted, <br /> the viability of closed streets decreased. Downtown was once occupied with <br /> large retail stores. Currently, downtown is diversified with specialty shops, <br /> restaurants and professional services. <br /> <br />
