Open house hours are Friday, September 20, from 5 to 7
p.m., Saturday, September 21, from 1 to 7 p.m., and Sunday, September 22, from 1 to 4 p.m.
The City of Eugene has hired a consultant and started design work for the multi-phase
project. Construction work scheduled to begin next year includes strengthening the existing Ferry
Street Bridge to make it more able to withstand earthquakes and making safety improvements for
motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians in the heavily traveled corridor between downtown Eugene and
the rapidly growing area north of the Willamette River. The preservation and enhancement project
will not add any new lanes to the Ferry Street Bridge. Total cost of the project currently is estimated
to be approximately $30 million, with 80 percent of the funding coming from the federal government
and the remainder from Lane County and City of Eugene transportation funds.
A highlight of the first phase of the project will be the construction of a new bicycle-
pedestrian bridge just south of the Ferry Street Bridge. Drawings of several design options will be
on display at the open house, and forms will be available for comments from the public.

'I For more information about the open house, call the Ferry Street Bridge corridor
preservation and enhancement project office at 984-8449.
