If there is no alternative but to place <br /> leaves in bike lanes, keep at least half the lane's width open for bicycles. <br /> •Keep sidewalks free of leaves. Wet leaves on sidewalks are slippery and hazardous for <br /> pedestrians. <br /> 1996 Leaf C lection Schedule <br /> Unles an immediate hazard exists, Public Works Maintenance crews follow a schedule that <br /> ensures syste atic coverage of the city and controls the cost of the program. There are five <br /> collection are s in the city, and each area is scheduled for two collections. Streets without curbs <br /> and gutters ar normally picked up only during the second half of the schedule. Major arterials <br /> with bike lan s are picked up weekly. In 1996, leaf pickup begins October 28 and continues <br /> through Janu ry 3, 1997. Here is this year's leaf collection schedule: <br /> •In ce tral Eugene, between the Willamette River and 18th Avenue from Garfield Street to <br /> Agate Street, eaves will be picked up October 28 through November 1. Crews will return for the <br /> second picku December 2 through December 6. <br /> •In w st Eugene, north of 18th Avenue and west of Garfield Street, including <br /> Bethel/Daneb ,and in the Churchill area west of Bertelsen Road, leaves will be picked up <br /> November 4 ~hrough November 8.
