Administration
City of Eugene
858 Pearl Street
CONTACT: Bob Hammitt, Maintenance Director, 687-5220 Eugene, OR 97401
(503) 687-5262
From Public Information Section, 687-5523
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SNOW/ICE EMERGENCY NO LONGER IN EFFECT
City of Eugene maintenance crews have ended snow plowing operations, and Public
Works Maintenance Director Bob Hammitt has ended the snow/ice emergency ban on parking
along snow routes.
Portions of many streets, especially those in the south hills, remained slippery this
morning, and City crews worked through the night spreading sand on icy streets. Spots of ice
may continue for several days, particularly if a cold, dry front moves into the area and holds
temperatures below the freezing mark.
Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians are cautioned to be careful when driving, bicycling,
or walking on sanded roads, bike paths, sidewalks, or pedestrian crosswalks until the sand has
been swept up. Traffic has pushed much of the sand from the main travel lanes into adjacent
bicycle lanes along arterial streets. The city's main arterials and adjacent bike lanes will be the
first priority for sand pick up. The sand collected from the clean up effort will be used
throughout the year on City street maintenance projects.
Property owners are reminded that they are responsible for clearing ice, snow, and sand
from the sidewalks next to their property so they are safe for pedestrians.
