<br /> i <br /> / t <br /> ~~~~~'L <br /> JI ~ <br /> Public Works <br /> AUGUST 3, 1 95 Administration <br /> City of Eugene <br /> CONTACT: ric Jones, Public Information Coordinator, 687-5523 858 Pearl Street <br /> Eugene, OR 97401 <br /> FOR IlVIl1~D TE RELEASE (503) 687-5262 <br /> RIBBON UTTING, PARADE MARK COMPLETION OF HIGHWAY 99 PROJECT <br /> A ribb -cutting ceremony and a parade on Friday morning will mark the rededication of <br /> Highway 99 fr m Roosevelt Boulevard to Barger Drive. <br /> Membe s of the Eugene City Council, the Lane County Board of Commissioners, the <br /> Oregon Depar ent of Transportation, and Wildish Construction Company will be on hand for <br /> the 10 a.m. rib on cutting at the corner of Roosevelt Boulevard and Highway 99. Immediately <br /> following the r bbon-cutting ceremony, a motorized parade will wend along the newly paved <br /> highway from oosevelt to Barger and back. Area merchants have organized a variety of sales <br /> and festivities celebrate the completion of construction. <br /> The $4 2 million highway improvement project began in June 1994. The work included <br /> installing sto drainage facilities; realigning Bethel Drive and Lakewood Court at Highway 99 <br /> <br /> !and adding a ffic signal at that intersection; constructing curbs, gutters, and sidewalks on both <br /> sides of the hi way; widening the highway to include bicycle lanes; building landscaped islands <br /> at Fairfield, R yal, and Roosevelt; landscaping and planting trees along the highway; and <br /> resurfacing the existing pavement. <br /> The S to of Oregon administered the project, which was paid for through contributions <br /> Lane County, and the City of Eugene and by assessments. Eugene Public Works <br /> <br /> ~ from the State, <br /> <br /> i <br /> designed the p oject and served as liaison between the state and local property owners during <br /> construction. ildish Construction was the general contractor for the project. <br /> <br />
