Eugene City Councilor Jim Torrey and City of <br /> Eugene Pub is Works staff will be available to answer questions and take comments on the proposed <br /> East Bank rail, which is considered a critical link in the riverbank trail system. <br /> App oximately $790,000 in federal funding has been earmarked for the City to complete a <br /> loop of the xisting riverbank bicycle/pedestrian path along the east bank of the Willamette River <br /> from the Gr enway Bicycle Bridge at Valley River Center north approximately 1.75 miles to the <br /> Owosso Bic cle Bridge, with a future extension to Green Acres Road at Delta Highway. The federal <br /> grant would pay for 80 percent of the project costs, and funds collected through City transportation <br /> systems dev lopment charges would pay the balance. <br /> Coi ments received at the meeting will be forwarded to the Eugene City Council, which in <br /> April is sch duled to decide whether to proceed with the design work and purchase the remaining <br /> right-of-wa for the project. If the council approves the project, environmental issues will be <br /> evaluated la er this year, and constructio? tentatively is scheduled to occur in 1996. <br /> For more information about the project, contact Diane Bishop, the city's bicycle coordinator, at <br /> 687-5298. <br /> <br />
