This is the 16th year Eugene <br /> has been h nored by the National Arbor Day Foundation. Eugene also earned a 1994 Tree <br /> City USA rowth award for demonstrating progress in its community forestry program. <br /> Eug ne Mayor Ruth Bascom will accept the awards from Darrel Spiesschaert of the <br /> Oregon De artment of Forestry at the City Council's April 10 meeting. The awards <br /> ceremony egins at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber, 777 Pearl Street. <br /> The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation in <br /> cooperatio with the US Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. The <br /> program r ognizes communities that preserve and enhance urban forests through tree boards <br /> or departm nts, city tree ordinances, comprehensive community forestry programs, and Arbor <br /> Day obser ances. <br /> Th growth award recognizes Eugene's efforts in continuing education of City tree <br /> workers in tree care and pruning, the improved partnership with the Eugene Water and <br /> <br /> Electric B and on tree issues, and the tree care and pruning standards the City has developed <br /> in coopera ion with EWEB. <br /> <br />
