i <br /> <br /> _ j <br /> I?/~~/~/!/~/7/,/mil <br /> Public Works <br /> SEPTEMBER 20, 1993 Administration <br /> City of Eugene <br /> CONTACT: Peter Ruffier, Wastewater Division Director, 687-5368 858 Pearl Street <br /> From Public Information Section, 687-5523 Eugene, OR 97401 <br /> (503) 687-5262 <br /> FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br /> REGIONAL FACILITY SETS HIGH STANDARD FOR WASTEWATER TREATMENT <br /> The Eugene-Springfield Water Pollution Control Facility has received <br /> national recognition for excellence in operating the region's sewage <br /> treatment plant. <br /> The Gold Award of the national Association of Metropolitan Sewerage <br /> Agencies recognizes the facility's strong commitment to water pollution <br /> control and protection of the Willamette River's water quality. <br /> Between May and July, an average of 38 million gallons of wastewater a <br /> day was treated at the regional facility on River Avenue in north Eugene. <br /> During that period, the treated effluent released to the Willamette River <br /> consistently contained less than half of the pollutants allowed under the <br /> facility's new discharge permit, and turbidity measurements were far lower <br /> than the allowable standard. <br /> The treatment plant's excellent operational performance also earned <br /> praise from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, which called it <br /> "one of the finest run facilities in the region." <br /> The Eugene-Springfield Water Pollution Control Facility is administered <br /> by the reg~,ional Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission and is operated <br /> by the Wastewater Division of the City of Eugene Public Works Department. <br /> I <br /> <br />
