NEWS RELEASE <br /> July 5, 1993 <br /> CONTACT: Sandra Gleason, Public Information, 687-5523 <br /> Christine Andersen, Public Works Director, 687-4251 <br /> pave Hauser, Chamber of Commerce, 485-1234 <br /> ion Scheele, ODOT, Salem, 378-6546 <br /> FOR IMME IATE RELEASE <br /> COMMUNITY INVITED TO TOUR HIGH SPEED RAIL TRAIN <br /> The X2000, a high-speed train, which is planned for future use in the <br /> Pacific Northwest, will be in Eugene/Springfield on Thursday, July 8 from 2-5 <br /> p.m., at the AMTRAK Station at 4th and Willamette. The community is invited <br /> to tour he train and get a glimpse of the future of high speed rail in <br /> Eugene aid Springfield. <br /> A news conference is scheduled on Thursday, July 8, at 8 a.m. at the <br /> AMTRAK station to welcome the train to Eugene. John Whitty, vice-chair of <br /> the Oreg¢n Transportation Commission will oversee the event and will present <br /> awards t~ the mayors of Eugene and Springfield. Other speakers include <br /> Senator ratten Kerans, Lane County Commissioner Steve Cornacchia, Eugene <br /> Mayor Ru h Bascom, Sprinfield Mayor Bill Morrisette, Eugene Chamber of <br /> Commerce President Gerry Gaydos, Springfield Chamber of Commerce President <br /> Joe Leahy, and representatives from AMTRAK, Southern Pacific, and ABB <br /> (designe s and builders of the train). Once the ceremony is over, invited <br /> <br /> guests will, board the X2000 train for a ride to Salem, where state <br /> legislat rs will join them.
