In an effort to <br /> stop the deterioration, the city's contractor, Eugene Sand & Gravel, will <br /> installa 12-inch-thick cement-treated base with four inches of asphalt <br /> surfacing. If the heavier base is effective in preventing deterioration, the <br /> techniq~le can be applied to other sections of bike path. <br /> During the reconstruction work, which is expected to take about a month <br /> to compl'~ete, bicyclists and pedestrians will be detoured to the concrete <br /> walkway 'on the south side of the Amazon. <br /> ~'3s 2~~ <br /> T e',lpr~oject also includes an overlay of the paved approach on the west <br /> side of ',Garfield to the bike path next to Westmoreland housing. Money for <br /> the proj;~ect will come from funding for rehabilitation of the city's bike path <br /> system.
