The owners of some 3,000 properties within the federally <br /> designated ugene special flood hazard area will get additional information later this fall. <br /> The information is prepared by the City of Eugene to increase awareness of the <br /> community s flood hazard and the National Flood Insurance Program. The City offers a free <br /> map deter ination service that can identify whether or not property is located within a special <br /> flood bazar area. The City also provides information on how to protect property in the event <br /> of a flood. <br /> Eug ne has participated in the National Flood Insurance Program since the late 1970s. <br /> In 1990, th City applied for and was accepted into a national flood hazard program called <br /> the Comm pity Rating System. These federal programs provide a direct benefit in the form <br /> of flood in urance availability and lower flood insurance premiums for all property owners <br /> within the ity of Eugene.
