' <br /> ' NEWS RELEASE <br /> January 24, 1990 <br /> CONTACT: iane Bishop, Bicycle Coordinator, 687-5298 <br /> From Sandr Gleason, Public Information, 687-5523 <br /> FOR IMMEDI TE RELEASE <br /> CO UNITY RESIDENTS TO DISCUSS RELOCATION OF BIKE/PEDESTRIAN PATH <br /> I' Eugene City Councilors, Debra Ehrman and Shawn Boles will meet with <br /> i <br /> members o the Sorgenfri retirement community and residents of the Hawthorne <br /> area neighborhood to discuss whether or not to close and reroute a section of <br /> the Hawth m e connection, which is part of the Marshall Ditch bike/pedestrian <br /> path. Th meeting will be held on Monday, January 29, at 7 p.m., in the <br /> Sorgenfri eeting room, at 3400 Hawthorne Street. <br /> The ity has received two petitions on the bike path, which currently <br /> links Haw horne Street at the west property line of Sorgenfri with the <br /> cul-de-sa at the center of the Sorgenfri community. <br /> ~ Sorg nfri residents have asked that the Hawthorne bicycle/pedestrian <br /> connector be closed and rerouted to the south of their development as a way <br /> to improv safety and reduce vandalism in their community. Residents of the <br /> I <br /> I, neighborh od to the west of the connector have petitioned to keep the path <br /> I <br /> open.
