In response, the Eugene City Council will
hold a public hearing on a proposed tree preservation ordinance on Monday,

i
Oct. 8 at 7 30 p.m. in the Council Chamber, City Hall, 777 Pearl Street,
f
4
Eugene.
The ci y of Eugene and Lane County have prepared a draft ordinance that
would establish rules for the cutting and removal of trees in the area
between the city limits and the Urban Growth Boundary. The ordinance amends
the existin tree preservation code by adding definitions, clarifying the
criteria for issuing tree removal permits, establishing standards and
guidelines f r tree cutting and removal, and establishing an appeals process.
Accordi g to Allen Lowe, an assistant planner with the city of Eugene
Planning div sion, the ordinance does not apply to land within the city
limits, so t e role of the City Council is to recommend the ordinance to the
Lane County oard of Commissioners. "Comments made by citizens during the
1
1 public heari g on Oct. 8 will be considered by the Council before it makes
its recommen ations on the ordinance to the County Commissioners," said Lowe.
more
