The purpose of the event is to emphasize the <br /> importance of using alternative transportation modes, such as bicycles, to <br /> commute to ork as a way to improve the air quality in the state. <br /> Beginning at 7 a.m., each city councilor will lead a bicycle ride from a <br /> site iq the'r ward to the park block at 8th and Oak. There the Eugene <br /> Bicycle Co ittee and Bike Town USA, who are sponsors for the event, will <br /> serve a con mental breakfast. <br /> City C uncilors will begin the rides at the following locations: <br /> { <br /> Payless at 0th and Willamette led by Randy McDonald, Albertsons at 30th and <br /> Halyard led by Ruth Bascom, Mulligan Park at 17th and Charnelton led by Oebra <br /> Ehrman, the University of Oregon at 13th and University led by Paul <br /> Nicholson, iffany's at the Oakway Mall led by Kay Robinette, Petersen Barn <br /> at Royal an Berntzen led by Bobby Green, Monroe Park at Broadway and Monroe <br /> led by Shaw Boles, and the Willamette Christian Center at 18th and Hawkins <br /> led by Roge Rutan. Brian Churchill, chair of the Eugene Bicycle Committee, <br /> also will 1 ad a group from Kincaid Park at 39th and East Amazon. <br /> "Becau a we want to encourage safe bicycling habits, we are asking that <br /> <br /> ~'""'i ;participants wear a bicycle helmet on the ride," Churchill said. <br /> <br />
