Public Works <br /> City of Eugene <br /> 858 Pearl Street <br /> Eugene, Oregon 97401 <br /> N E W S R E L E A S E (5os~ s87-52s2 <br /> June 3, 1 91 <br /> i <br /> i <br /> CONTACT: Jim West, Transportation Planner, 687-5218 <br /> From Sand a Gleason, Public Information, 687-5523 <br /> FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br /> CITY H STS MEETINGS ON UPDATE TO CENTRAL AREA TRANSPORTATION STUDY <br /> The ity of Eugene Public Works Department and the citizen advisory <br /> committee for the Central Area Transportation Study (CATS) will hold scoping <br /> sessions n Tuesday, June 4 and Thursday, June 6, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., in <br /> the Train'ng Room at EWE6, 500 E. 4th Ave. to identify transportation issues <br /> that shou d be addressed in the study. <br /> The une 4 meeting will focus on the downtown area, and the June 6 <br /> meeting ill focus on the University of Oregon area. People are welcome to <br /> attend ei her or both sessions. <br /> The riginal CATS was completed and adopted in 1987 and encompassed the <br /> downtown, University of Oregon, and Sacred Heart General Hospital areas. It <br /> evaluate the traffic circulation system and recommended street improvements <br /> to meet xisting and future traffic needs. It also identified future parking <br /> needs an recommended corrections and evaluated traffic and parking impacts <br /> on air q ality in the metropolitan area. <br /> Tra sportation and land use changes in the downtown and University areas <br /> since 19 7 have prompted the need for an update of CATS. Recent changes <br /> <br /> 'i <br /> include he departure of two major retail department stores in the downtown <br /> area and proposed relocations of the Library and the LTD Transit Stations. <br /> Accordin to Jim West, city of Eugene transportation planner, regardless of <br /> <br />
