<br /> III <br /> Public W rks and Parks Services Merger <br /> Early in March, City Manager Mike Gleason announced the merger of Public <br /> Works an Parks Maintenance services. The primary goal of the merger was to <br /> provide more cost-effective service to the public. According to early <br /> analyses the merger provides both cost savings and a number of operational <br /> efficien ies. <br /> A transi ion team, composed of Parks Services and Public Works Maintenance <br /> and Engi Bering staff, has been meeting to work through questions and help <br /> the tran ition occur as smoothly as possible. AFSCME has played an integral <br /> part in he process and has helped staff successfully work through merger <br /> decision Some proposals are still in draft form, and many questions are as <br /> yet unre olved. As the process continues, the details and direction of the <br /> merger w'll become clearer. The following is a summary of what has happened <br /> so far. <br /> A total f 64.5 employees were transferred to Public Works from Parks <br /> Services Parks Planning and Design, and staff from the senior and community <br /> centers. All but two of the employees Louis Kroeck and Walt Hannick <br /> were mer ed with Public Works Maintenance. <br /> Louis an Walt joined Public Works Engineering. Their new supervisor is City <br /> Surveyor Joe Ferguson. Louis will continue as the designer for parks capital <br /> improvem nts. Walt will provide support services to the Eugene Conference <br /> <br />
